How much relationship evidence is enough?

The situation

Party A and Party B have been together for a while and are getting ready to apply for a partnership-based visa. They have gathered photos, messages and a few shared bills, but they are unsure whether it is too little or whether they need to keep adding documents. They want to know how much relationship evidence Immigration New Zealand actually expects before they submit.

There is no magic number of documents: what counts is whether your evidence, taken together, convincingly shows a genuine and stable relationship over time. Immigration New Zealand looks for quality and consistency, not volume.

Strong applications usually cover several areas:

  • Living together: shared tenancy or mortgage, joint bills, mail to the same address.
  • Shared finances: joint accounts, shared expenses or assets.
  • Recognition: photos over time, communication, and statements from people who know you as a couple.

Evidence spread across a longer period is far more persuasive than a stack from a single month. Build a clear relationship timeline and gather evidence of living together. MyLaw can review it before you apply.
